Baby Dragon has always been a pretty popular card, but an evolution has been a long time coming. The big baby himself is a staple in many decks as a support card, and has been for nearly a decade at this point. From Golem to Giant, Baby Dragon has always been one of the best cards to support big tanks. Now that he has an evolution, though, he’s even better and even more popular. In this article, I’ll look at three great decks that are popular right now featuring the evolved Baby Dragon. But first, let’s check out what his evolution does in the first place!
What Does Baby Dragon’s Evolution Do?

To put it simply, Baby Dragon’s evolution basically makes him even better as a support troop. He gains a new ability which allows him to speed up friendly troops and slow down enemy ones in a large area around him whenever he attacks. This allows your troops to get to threats quicker and slows theirs down. It’s perfect for a support troop. The large gusts of wind Baby Dragon produces make winning large fights much easier, so there’s literally no downside compared to his original version.
Since the cycle cost for evolved Baby Dragon is only 1, you should be able to use it very often. You don’t have to be too conservative when trying to set up a big push with the evolved dragon, which helps him work a lot better in aggressive decks. This evolution has really made Baby Dragon decks more aggressive in general, as everything from slow tanks to fast threats benefit from this speed boost. Just watch out for vines… they’re everywhere!
Deck 1 – Baby Dragon + Golem

Cards:
- Baby Dragon (Evo)
- Witch (Evo)
- Golem
- Goblin Machine
- P.E.K.K.A.
- Minions
- Barbarian Barrel
- Vines
This deck has been seeing a lot of play at high levels since Baby Dragon’s evolution first released. Since Baby Dragon is such a heavy support troop, he works best with large tanks he can hide behind and help. And what’s a better big tank to support than Golem? Golem decks have almost always featured Baby Dragon and other cards like Witch, so it’s not surprising how popular this deck is. In addition to evolved Baby Dragon, I also included Witch for obvious reasons. Witch is also one of the best support cards in the game, so she goes along perfectly with the Golem-based plan.
That being said, Golem is pretty expensive to cast. Typically, you’re not going to have many good chances to play Golem until double elixir or even overtime. So, to allow this deck to continue functioning without him, Goblin Machine functions as an alternative tank for only 5 elixir. Goblin Machine’s biggest appeal is that he’s a brawler-tank hybrid, and the missiles he launches are great for taking out low- and mid-HP troops like Dart Goblin or Berserker. I’ve also included Mini P.E.K.K.A. and Minions as defensive troops that can help with a counter push when able. Then for spells, I have Vines and Barbarian Barrel. Vines is the best spell in the game right now, and Barbarian Barrel counters swarms and Goblin Barrel.
When it comes to how to play this deck, I recommend being aggressive. You have to play the evolution cards to get to the evolved version, so you really want to be playing your best cards as often as possible. The exception is Golem. Golem should only be used when you have full elixir and usually in double elixir. He’s so expensive and vulnerable that playing him too early can lead to your opponent sweeping your other side, so you can’t do it too early.
Deck 2 – Baby Dragon + P.E.K.K.A./Royal Hogs

Cards:
- Baby Dragon (Evo)
- P.E.K.K.A. (Evo)
- Royal Hogs
- Golden Knight
- Electro Wizard
- Royal Ghost
- Vines
- Barbarian Barrel
When I was researching the Baby Dragon evolution decks that have been popular so far, one I came across a few times utilized evolutions for Baby Dragon and Battle Ram, so I tried it out. While it is good, Battle Ram is just too inconsistent. This is especially true with so many of its counters being popular right now. So instead, I basically took that deck, moved P.E.K.K.A. to the second evo spot (it was in the deck already but not as an evo), and added Royal Hogs as the new win con replacing the Battle Ram. This deck is just as aggressive, but it isn’t as vulnerable and it makes better use of Baby Dragon’s evo. Both are really cool, but I just preferred this version.
Baby Dragon and P.E.K.K.A. are a classic tank/support combo, so there isn’t much to explain there. Royal Hogs are also easy to explain, as while Baby Dragon/P.E.K.K.A. is a strong combo, it isn’t fast or cheap. The Hogs are a good way to chip away tower damage or take one out entirely if they have some backup. Golden Knight and Royal Ghost are both included to distract ground troops, fight them, and clear low-HP troops. Then there’s Electro Wizard, which is strong air defense and can reset troops’ attacks. Vines and Barbarian Barrel, just like in the first deck, are just the two best spells right now in my opinion, so of course they’re included.
This deck is highly aggressive, with several routes you can go. You can focus on Baby Dragon and P.E.K.K.A. with the goal of setting up a big push with both evolutions up, or you can play it more by ear and spam Hogs. Royal Hogs work great either on their own or with a big push in double elixir, so you don’t have to stick with one gameplan. This is a reliable deck that’s tons of fun to play, so I’d recommend trying it out.
Deck 3 – Baby Dragon + Mega Knight Evo

Cards:
- Baby Dragon (Evo)
- Mega Knight (Evo)
- Boss Bandit
- Berserker
- Vines
- Royal Delivery
- Bats
- Electro Spirit
This might be the most fun deck I’ve played on Clash Royale in quite a while. Baby Dragon and Mega Knight as the featured evo cards has the same effect that all the other decks have had: tank + Baby Dragon as support. But, the rest of the deck gets a little more unique this time. Boss Bandit is a very strong Champion card with an effect that’s both powerful and lots of fun. It allows the Boss Bandit to do a Bandit-like dash attack, but the Boss can activate a Champion ability to reset and do this attack again. She can do this twice, so it’s a lot of fun to take a more hands-on approach to your troops’ attacks than usual.
The rest of this deck is mostly defense-focused. Berserker is strong right now since she can help counter high-HP troops due to her relatively high DPS, so I like using her here since we don’t have much tank defense. Royal Delivery clears low-HP troops and swarms so it’s useful to have, and Bats also contributes to the air defense. Vines is also included just like in every other deck, but if it gets nerfed you can mostly just replace it with any spell which defends against air and ground troops. And then there’s Electro Spirit for cycling and some light support.
This deck is slower than most, but it has an aggressive side with Boss Bandit and Berserker. While you do want to be cautious here, you don’t want to be afraid to go all-in when the opportunity arises.
